Day #4 of Nature Trail Project with groups

Our group's to do list for today is to work on the Home page, renaming and organizing tabs, and adding descriptions on a couple of pages. We accomplished all of this by the end of the day, but we went through a lot of difficulty, and went through drafts so our website looks the best it can be with no glitches or misplaced images. Our group tended to edit the website when someone else was, causing some things to look different. Since Google Sites doesn't let a couple people edit at the same time, we had to make sure that only one of us was editing at the time. Tomorrow we are going to put the Fitness videos on the website, as well as linking the website to its Facebook page.

Make sure to check Adreyan's blog to see what he thought of today! Check out our website too!

Day #2 of Nature Trail Project with groups

Today, my group edited the nature trail website, such as editing the weather map on the website and adding a caption under it to inform viewers the purpose it has on the page. The goals for the day were to: Change the light green on the background to a picture and to change the font color so visitors can read it with ease. I edited the site's background and fonts so it looks professional as well as easy to read and pleasing to read. Click the "nature trail website" link to see the newest revision on the site. Since all we did today is just working, I put some pictures from yesterday that I took on the trail.

Just one of those moments, being at the right place at the right time!

Tomorrow we plan to start adding information into the different tabs/pages for other groups involved creating the nature trail.

Mound Laser

Sophomores at DRSS took a trip to Mound Laser . The point of the trip was to help their landscaping by planting plants and putting mulch around them. It was a good way to start the nature trail project! We were divided into groups of 4 and were assigned number of plants in an area. We divided up the work by who's bringing the mulch, who's digging up the dirt with the shovel, who's spreading the mulch, etc.

Three Guiding Principles

  • Sustainability - It can be re-purposed when no longer need for the trail.
  • Environmental Impact - Does no harm to ecosystem or people who would use trail because we use mulch, which all-natural.
  • Recreation - People can enjoy themselves within nature trail because the scenery is nice and neat.
Going to Mound Laser got me in the "mood" for the Nature Trail Project personally because it was a hands-on activity that we worked on a long time frame (two periods).
Everyone in my group had an assigned task to keep it going!

Job Shadowing at K12 Art Gallery

Freshman and sophomores at the Dayton Regional STEM School had job shadowing last Friday (May 3rd, 2013). 25 students, including me, chose K12 Art Gallery as our job shadowing place in downtown Dayton.

Street view of K12.
Zoomed up version of a cat statue.
First, students got a tour inside, including an art studio. We met a painter there, and I remember one of her quotes: "I don't paint something that directly connects to what it looks like. If I did, the viewer's eyes will go there and will ignore all the beautiful trash around it."

We also learned about fundraising applies to non-profit arts organizations like K12. We helped with their current fundraising project by creating mosaic lanterns.

To make the lanterns, first we brainstormed ideas. Then, we outlined the designs on the lamps. When we were done with that, we would find glass shards, and place them on the tray. There were big sheets of glass as well, and students broke shards off of it (Safety glasses and tools were used to do this. I mean, teenagers playing around with glass is dangerous enough). Then, we would glue them on!

"In art, what you make reflects your personality."

Even though I don't think I'll be in an art career in the future, it was a fun day and I liked the experience, as well as helping the fundraiser for K12.
